George Rutherford’s Artwork
Welcome
Thank you for visiting my website.
I am pleased to share with you information about my creative process, artists who influence me and places that inspire me to paint.
Creative Process
Most of my paintings start with a photograph which forms the idea and foundation of a painting. From that, I sketch what I think the design and composition of the finished painting will be. At the same time I am considering various elements that will enhance the final scene like the time of day, the season and the weather all of which may be altered from the photograph to suit the composition. Once I start the painting itself, another level in the process kicks in as considerations of colour, light and dark and form dominate decision making. Surprises that occur are taken into account. By the time I’m done, it would be hard to equate the original photo with the finished painting.
